I think the N110 is an excellent choice. It's the successor of the NC10 which is often seen on the top of  favorite-netbook lists. Despite strong competition, Samsung remains on top with its new N110. Though the tech specs are quite the same as its predecessor, Samsung has extended the touchpad and increased the six-cell battery’s capacity to give this netbook 7 hours of runtime.

If your daugther has to do some serious work on her netbook, you might opt for one of the 12-inch netbooks, like the new Samsung NC20. Samsung's NC20 netbook is one of the first netbooks from a major manufacturer to use Via's Nano processor. The 1.3Ghz Nano is about equal to Atom 1.6Ghz in overall performance. Battery life isn't as good as the Atom though. You can expect roughly up to 5.5 hours of battery life at medium brightness. The NC20 has an excellent  12.1" 1280x800 display and a large keyboard, which makes typing easier. It appeared on the US market last month.
