Amazon has long offered music and movies for download and/or streaming. And now they've stepped into the wild world of ‘no-CD’ video game downloads.

Through Amazon Game Downloads, customers will have access to over 600 games from various software houses priced at $9.99 or less. Players can also try games for a free 30 minute trial period. This new service allows customers to enjoy the latest casual gaming titles such as FishCo, Jewel Quest III and Home Sweet Home 2: Kitchens and Baths. The service is still technically in beta, but already open to the public. Downloading and trial is a simple process of logging in, downloading a download application and then downloading and installing the app.

For a limited time, you can grab three full version games for free, including:

• Jewel Quest II, a matching puzzle game
• Build-a-lot, a house building simulation game
• The Scruffs, a seek-and-find object game

This is good news for netbook users as all netbooks lack optical drives. Well done Amazon!
