Netbooks are not build for gaming and all netbooks lack CD-ROM/DVD drives. Yet it's often possible to play games on it. On YouTube (and on this forum too) you can find many examples of netbook users demonstrating games on their netbook. I will describe 4 methods you might try.

A) The easiest way is using an external USB CD-ROM drive like this $ 19.95 one:

http://www.amazon.com/External-Slim-CD-ROM-Drive-Black/dp/B001B1796U

Or an external USB DVD-ROM drive like this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Apricorn-EZ-WTR-DVD-C24-CD-RW-DVD-ROM-External/dp/B0000C0CU5/

B) If you don’t want to use an external drive you have to find a way to copy the content of the CD-ROM or DVD to the disk of your netbook. Some people simply copy the files which are on the game’s CD/DVD disc to a USB Flash drive but that’s not recommended. The best way to do this is this:

1) Create an ISO image of the CD/DVD disc. You can do that with (free) burning software or with the ISO Maker Plugin from Daemon Tools.

http://www.daemon-help.com/general_use_lite/panel_lite/iso_maker.html

2) Copy the ISO file to your netbook. You can do this with a USB Flash drive. For DVD’s you need a large capacity one like this:

http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Cruzer-SDCZ6-8192-A11-Retail-Package/dp/B000UZN2ZK/

3) Download a CD/DVD emulator prog to your netbook. I can recommend Daemon Tools for this. Daemon Tools is a disk image emulator and optical disc authoring program for Microsoft Windows. It’s free and works great.

http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/download.php?mode=ViewCategory&catid=5

4) Mount the ISO file with Daemon tools and the game should work exact like it would work on your home PC.

C) The third method is to set up a network:

If you already have your computers set up for a home network:

1) Add your netbook to that network by going to ‘My Network Places’, and opening up the ‘Set up a home or small office network’ on the left side. Make sure that the network name is the same. Follow instructions fully. You may have to reboot afterwards.

2) On the computer with the DVD drive, go to the ‘My Computer’ and locate the DVD drive. right click on it and open ‘Sharing and Security...’ Check Share this folder on the network''  .

3) On the netbook, open the network and locate the DVD drive.

4) On the computer with the DVD drive, insert a program and stop install.

5) On the netbook, open the DVD drive, locate the ‘setup file’ and run. That's it.

If you don't have a set up network, you will have to set up the network for each computer with the same network name. Follow the above instructions for the rest.

D) The fourth method is to dowload games directly to your netbook's SSD or HDD Drive. You can download  online version of many games legally at  'Steam' and 'Amazon Game Downloads'. Just download it to your netbook and there you go Smiley. Broadband recommended.

That’s brilliant! You're pretty hardcore Grin

Filezilla is great. I use it to upload apps and files to my ISP. I initially tried Leech FTP because it was recommended by my host, but it did not work and nearly drove me crazy. Filezilla works like a charm.

I like using FTP for files too. I find it much easier to access things when I'm not at home since I seem to lose things quite easily. Doesn't really help when I lose an important CD/USB drive Embarrassed

I use FireFTP for Firefox, seems to do everything I need Cheesy

Man I'm set. I play gta vice city on my netbook, and it runs perfectly. But I tried star wars battlefront 2 and it close down on me after a few good minutes of play. and it takes forever to load. then I tried nba live 2003, and sonic adventure dx. those both didn't work, maybe i messed them up. But there are emulators and stuff for games. I even got ms office on mines. all i would like to know is what games are ideal for a netbook with 1 gb of ram Huh

It's most likely a graphics problem. The RAM should be enough to play Star Wars Battlefront 2 fine.

You might try 3d-Analyze, which is a powerful application that allows to play many DirectX based games using video hardware officially unsupported and theoretically unable to run these:  3d-Analyze screenshot and download.

You might also try StreamMyGame. Members can access and play their games remotely via their local/home network. Basically, the server converts the PC game's audio and video into a Game Stream and send it over a home network to a second computer where the gamer can play the game.

The second computer can either be a PC, netbook, PS3 or even any Linux device. Moreover, you will not experience any sort of lag and to top it all, the second computer does not even need to have the game installed.
